Plaza District Association Hires Dustin Akers to fill Interim Executive Director Role

OKLAHOMA CITY (March. 16th, 2015) – The Plaza District Association announces Dustin Akers as Interim Executive Director of the Plaza District Association. Akers has served on the Association’s Board of Directors since May 2014, and was hired for the interim position after Kristen Vails resigned in February.

Dustin Akers has nine years of experience across the industries of urban planning, real estate, placemaking, policy, and economic and community development. He has completed projects across a wide spectrum of disciplines for public, private and non-profit entities in Oklahoma and across the southeast. Dustin serves on the Advisory Board for the Urban Land Institute Oklahoma District Council and is the Chairman of its Young Leaders Group. Akers holds a Masters in Urban and Regional Planning from Virginia Tech and a Bachelors in Business Administration from the University of South Carolina.

Dustin is an active member and resident of the neighborhood, serving on the Plaza District Association’s Board of Directors, Eugene Field Elementary School’s Community Advisory Board, and as a member of Classen Ten Penn Neighborhood Association.
