Plaza District Festival announces Children's Activities
The 19th annual Plaza District Festival returns Saturday, September 30 and will transform an entire street for children’s activities, which are free and open to the public, between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. The Festival’s dedicated Children’s area, located on Blackwelder between 15th and 16th street, will offer a full schedule of visual art, dance, zoology, storytelling, instrument playground, botany and of course, hands-on visual art.
“The Children’s area will offer a new blend of art and science activities, which I find appropriate, because, according to Einstein, art and science are just two branches of the same tree,” said Cayla Lewis, Plaza District Association Executive Director. “Art inspires us to seek to understand our world; and science provides us the tools during our search for understanding – so come get your face painted for enlightenment!”
The Children’s area all-day activities and schedule of events are listed below.
All-Day activities, between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.:
· Art projects with Norman Firehouse Art Center
· Make & take potted Calvert’s plants - while supplies last
· Face painting

Returning this year by popular demand is the Plaza Kid’s Art Boutique, a pop-up “kids only” art shop within the Children’s area that will feature visual art generously donated by many of this year’s visual artists. All art within the Plaza Kid’s Art Boutique is priced between $5 and $2 dollars and accessible to children 12 years and younger. Festival volunteers are on site to help each child select a piece for their personal art collection.
