The annual Plaza District Festival returns for its 18th year on Saturday, September 24, 12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., on the 1700 block of 16th Street, between Indiana and Blackwelder and in addition to the artist booths, music stages, food trucks, and live mural painting, the Festival features a dedicated area for artistic and interactive entertainment for children of all ages.
The dedicated Children’s area is on Blackwelder, between 15th and 16th Street; and is open and free to the public from 12:00 to 6:00 p.m.
New this year, the Plaza District Association introduces the Plaza Kid’s Art Boutique. This pop-up “kids only” art shop within the Children’s area features an eclectic mix of visual art generously donated by many 2016 Plaza District Festival visual artists. All art within the Plaza Kid’s Art Boutique is priced between $2 and $5 and accessible to children 12 years and younger. Festival volunteers are on site to help each child select a piece for their personal art collection.
Ongoing activities include face painting, collaborative sidewalk chalk murals, home-made play-dough sculpting, bubble pools, giant yard games, a blanket fort, corn hole, and a variety of hands-on art projects with the Norman Firehouse Art Center.
“The Blanket Fort, back by popular demand, is, for many families, a quiet and tranquil break from the Festival’s non-stop excitement and possible Oklahoma heat,” said Cayla Lewis, Plaza District Association Executive Director. “I invite parents to visit our lovingly curated Children’s area so their littles can experience creativity, laughter, and a kid-sized celebration of all things Plaza District.”
The 2016 Plaza District Festival is presented by Fowler Automotive, Oklahoma Employees Credit Union, and 84 Hospitality Group.
