The “Plaza Throwback Thursday” quarterly chat series begins Thursday, Feb. 25th, 2016 at 9:00am at District House Coffee.
Local business owners, developers and nearby residents from the Plaza District’s colorful past, present and future will individually share perspectives of how a sleepy business community revived into a thriving destination district with a 92% business occupancy rate. These visionaries’ investment of time, sweat equity and/or money developed a popular community gathering as well as future opportunities of continued growth. Oklahoma Employees Credit Union and Fowler Automotive created the Plaza Throwback Thursday chat series to inspire people involved in Oklahoma City’s planning and leadership, development, real estate and locally-owned businesses. The event is free and open to the public.
Reflecting on his past forty-one years, Plaza neighbor Jason Johnson will be the featured speaker at the first “Plaza Throwback Thursday.” Jason was integral in shaping the original formation of the Plaza District Association. A resident of nearby Gatewood neighborhood, Jason will share his personal recollections of both the Plaza District and Gatewood.
Over the recent years, the Plaza District has exploded with thriving businesses, restored buildings and community gather places. Yet, up until this renaissance, what was the district like? How did it get where it is today? “Plaza Throwback Thursday” will spotlight the success of past pioneers and current influencers to inspire tomorrow’s growth.
