Sidewalk Chalk-Rock Exhibition

This March, on the closing weekend of Spring Break, the Plaza District will host a new public art event, the Sidewalk Chalk Rock Exhibition; sponsored by District businesses.

Friday, March 20th, sponsoring Plaza businesses will host 2-3 artists or artist teams of their choosing to create site-specific chalk art compositions, which must be finished by noon the following day. The public is encouraged to attend to see those site specific works come into fruition. Starting Saturday, March 21st at noon, the community is invited to pick up chalk at the sponsoring business locations and join in the creativity; Saturday noon to 6:00 pm and Sunday from noon to 5:00 pm. There is no charge to attend or participate in the family friendly three day event. Attendees will be able to place their votes Sunday for the Viewer’s Choice Award for their favorite artwork via the Plaza District website. Following the close of the event the artist or artist team selected for the Viewer’s Choice Award will receive a cash prize; also sponsored by Plaza businesses.

Chalk artworks are an ephemeral extension of public art. You cannot buy them or take them home but you can experience them for a limited time. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to be a part of the creativity this March 20th-22nd in Oklahoma City’s Plaza District. Sponsoring Plaza businesses include 180 Residential Group, Collected Thread, District House, DNA Galleries, Empire Slice House, Graphite Elements & Design, Kasum Contemporary Fine Art, The Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma, No Regrets Tattoo, Oak & Ore, Out On A Limb, Paint & Cheers, The Parrish, Pie Junkie, Saint’s Pub, and Tree & Leaf Clothing Company. If the event must be canceled due to inclement weather the event date will be moved to the fourth weekend in April.
