Street and folk artist Jeannette Herrera, known internationally as Blue Face Killer, is keeping her heritage alive 4,000 miles away from its epicenter. Herrera composes visual narratives, alla prima (Wet on wet), which marry her Peruvian heritage with street culture and personal experience. Capitalizing on the memes, patterns and lore of Peruvian folk crafts the artist’s works focus on themes of death, survival, heroism, defiance, love, sex and religion. Jeannette’s paintings communicate directly and unabashedly; often referencing subject matter which could be considered dark or provocative. Over the last two years Jeannette’s compositions have earned the respect of several established art collectors, brokers and dealers; following solo shows in New York and Miami at Art Basil. Such aggressive growth in the Herrera’s career pushed the artist’s recent relocation from Washington D.C. to L.A. where she was featured in several solo shows in the second half of 2014. Presently the young artist has work traveling major museums on a seven city tour throughout the United States with Chicanitas, The Cheech Marin Collection. Jeannette Herrera’s paintings will make their Oklahoma debut this April at Kasum Contemporary Fine Art in the heart of Oklahoma City’s Plaza District.
