Satellite Exhibit for Guest Artist Paul Medina

  • Kasum Contemproary Fine Art Oklahoma City

Running concurrently with “A Mystical Menagerie” will be the gallery’s first Satellite Exhibit of the season which will focus of the seemingly surreal sculptures of guest artist Paul Medina; a long time Oklahoma City creative. “Paul’s works represent strong anthropological and contemporary social context; his most recent body of work is no exception.” said Morton. “Medina refers to his works as Balancing Acts which represent the quandary of power and of need in relation to food.” The symbolisms imbibed by Medina’s pieces are direct as figural busts and faces with deeply seeded expressions of contemplation balance sustenance atop stacks of stones while frozen in Zen like poses.

Oklahoma born artist, Paul Medina has been making art for over 40 years. Through the late seventies and on into the eighties, Medina flourished as a gallery artist. He was represented throughout the United States, doing many one and two person shows each year. Besides the many galleries that represented Medina over the years, he also exhibited at the Oklahoma Museum of Art, The Philbrook Museum of Art in Tulsa, and the Heard Museum in Phoenix, Arizona. Throughout his commercial success, he has amassed collectors from all over the world including writer Judith Blume of New York, late actor Robin William of San Francisco, and Yannick Noah of Paris, France.

Kasum Contemporary Fine Art’s eclectic consortium of gallery artists are defined by their provocatively bold artworks which challenge the observer as much as the artist; be it through technique, concept, emotion or the sheer deafening volume of compassion behind the work. It is the gallery’s philosophy that while anyone can create art, artists are rare; true artistry exists in the conception, the delivery and the drive to exceed the expected in all capacities. Focusing on progressive examples of contemporary fine art, the gallery represents established, mid-career and emerging artists of exceptional caliber.

The gallery features exhibit receptions, lectures, demonstrations, pop-up exhibits, interactive installations, special performance events and seasonal patron events. The establishment is open Tuesday through Thursday from 11:30am – 7:30pm, Friday from 11:30am – 8:30pm, Saturday from 11:30am – 7:30pm and Sunday from 1:00pm – 5:00pm. Kasum Contemporary Fine Art is located at 1706 NW 16th Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73106 and can be reached by calling 405.604.6602.
